Energy from the Sea. Floating Engineering.

In the silence of the Mediterranean, engineering meets the wind.
EOLMED represents the new frontier of clean energy: turbines dancing on water, supported by steel structures designed to defy waves and time.
A project bearing the signature of Stefano Residori, where technique becomes vision, and the sea becomes architecture.

The Horizon of Renewable Energy

Eighteen kilometers off the coast of Gruissan, EOLMED rises as the first industrial-scale French floating wind farm:
a system of three 10 MW Vestas turbines mounted on steel floating platforms, delivering a total capacity of 30 MW — enough clean energy to power more than 50,000 homes each year.

“A real-world laboratory for the future of European offshore wind.”

The challenge

To design a structure combining stability, efficiency, and lightness.
The floating platforms — 45 meters long and 17 meters high, anchored at 60 meters depth — are powered by Damping Pool® technology, a system that dampens wave motion to ensure perfect balance even in extreme marine conditions.

A project that turns the strength of the wind into harmony with the sea.

From bridges to the sea
the same steel vision.

Stefano Residori’s Role

In EOLMED, Stefano Residori oversaw the project coordination on behalf of Matière – MP ArchiMed, a member of the construction consortium.

Main areas of involvement:

  • Project Coordination: Overall supervision of operational activities, managing schedules, resources, and international teams.
  • Assembly Engineering: Definition of lifting and launching sequences for over 90 macro-components per floater.
  • Industrial Prefabrication: Process optimization and quality control for steel components, coordinating workshops and quayside operations.
  • Logistical Planning: Management of lifting and floating operations in synergy with ports and naval means.
  • Development of “Usine M”: Concept design for a floater gigafactory — an industrial model capable of producing up to 25 floating units per year.

Stefano’s Approach

  • Structural Innovation: Semi-submersible steel foundations redefine offshore stability while reducing costs and improving durability.
  • True Sustainability: Among the first offshore projects to combine low visual impact, renewable energy, and regional industrial production.
  • French Supply Chain: Entirely built and assembled in Occitanie, involving over 250 specialized professionals.
  • Replicable Vision: Born as a pilot project, EOLMED paves the way for serial production of floating wind farms across the Mediterranean and Europe.

“Every structure, whether a bridge or a platform, is a balance between strength and grace. The sea, more than anything else, forces you to respect that balance."

Stefano’s design philosophy blends engineering rationality with aesthetic awareness, transforming steel into a poetic language even when it speaks with nature.
EOLMED stands as proof: an industrial challenge, an environmental symbol, and a new frontier for engineering.
